We are pleased to announce that our team has chosen Dementia UK as our Charity of the Year for 2023. This charity has touched the hearts of many of us and we are looking forward to supporting the amazing work they do over the next 12 months.
What is dementia?
Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions that affect the brain. Each type of dementia stops a person’s brain cells (neurons) functioning properly in specific areas, affecting their ability to remember, think and speak.
Who are Dementia UK?
They are a specialist dementia nurse charity who provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.
The Dementia UK nurses, also known as “Admiral Nurses” provide care for people living with dementia, solving problems so that they can stay independent for longer. They also provide support for those caring for people with dementia so that they can cope with the ups and downs of life as a carer.
Dementia UK believe that Admiral Nurses give people the quality of care that we would all expect for ourselves and our loved ones and they aim to increase the number of nurses across the UK so that no one has to face dementia alone.
What are we doing to help?
Throughout the year, the Backhouse team will be supporting Dementia UK through a wide range of fundraising events such as quizzes, bake sales (always popular!), tuck shops and more. We will also work to spread awareness of the charity so that others may also be inspired to help.
