Inspiring a new generation of lawyers
Employment Law Solicitor Sarina Hayes and Trainee Wills & Probate Solicitor Ivana Sidey recently visited Law and Business students at Chelmsford College to talk to them about a career pathway in law after college, advising them on employability and how to make the best choices for their future.
In a bid to dispel the notion that a career in the legal sector is all hard work and no fun, Sarina and Ivana gave a social-media themed presentation entitled “The law of attraction: how to swipe the right choice for you!”
How do I get into the legal profession and what’s the right role for me?
Our team discussed the various different pathways into law and the possible next steps needed to gain a successful career, such as the LPC (Legal Practice Course), SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination) and Legal Apprenticeships.
In addition to speaking about the positives of a legal career, our team wanted to be realistic and give the students as much real-life information as possible in their talk, covering topics like concerns over poor grades, timelines, practicalities and pros and cons of different roles in the legal sector (Solicitor, Barrister, Chartered Legal Executive).
This led into another aspect of working in the legal sector – the day-to-day tasks and duties. Ivana and Sarina took the students through a typical day in the life of a Solicitor, addressing working hours, typical duties and key skills the students would need to develop. They also addressed salary expectations for all the different career options covered earlier in the session.
At Backhouse Solicitors, we understand the importance of clear and concise legal advice and are proud to support the next generation of lawyers in pursuing their passion for an exciting and fulfilling career in law.
