Battling through the snow and ice, Chiropractors from all over the UK arrived at the Park Inn, Heathrow for a day of coaching and motivational presentations from their mentors at Five Star Management. US based Five Star specialise in advising Chiropractors on both sides of the Atlantic how to grow their businesses, and the theme of the day was “Building a referral practice” through client recommendations.
The question asked of Backhouse Solicitors was “I’ve built my practice, now how do I protect it?”. We heard several examples on the day of the damage caused when staff leave and take important clients with them. For a Chiropractic, Osteopathic or Physiotherapy clinic the relationship between doctor and patient is a close physical one, and patients get to know and trust their doctor. Without any safeguards in place, it’s very easy for a departing doctor or associate to contact their clients and ask them to move to his or her new practice.
To explain how to guard against this, Minal Backhouse gave a presentation to the attendees entitled “Protecting your business interests”, explaining how good contracts of employment and restrictive covenants can make all the difference. This was a popular subject with many questions from the attendees.
