An LPA allows you to nominate a trusted friend or relative to manage your assets and make welfare decisions for you should you lose your capacity. You may think that this will never happen to you, but capacity can be lost by anyone at any age, the most common causes being illness or accidents. If you have your own assets then don’t leave things to chance – without an LPA it’s a long and very expensive process to apply through the Court of Protection.
